Neurological Assessment of the Older Person Post Fall
(NAO)

At the completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Accurately assess GCS; eye opening, verbal and motor response and identify the significance of any changes or abnormalities
  2. Conduct papillary responses and state the significance of any changes or abnormalities detected
  3. Accurately assess motor function and identify significance of any changes or abnormalities
  4. Assess the older person’s sensory function and identify the significance of any changes or abnormalities
  5. State the signs and symptoms of increased ICP
  6. Identify changes in vital signs that may indicate an increased ICP
  7. Determine the sequence and technique for a thorough physical assessment
  8. List possible signs and symptoms of a fractured neck of femur
  9. State the indications for transferring a client to hospital for further management
  10. Identify the documentation required post falls including which personnel need to be informed physical assessment on an older adult and identify normal and abnormal findings.
