Paediatric Neurological Assessment
(PNA)

The purpose of this article is to discuss basic neurological anatomy, physiology and assessment of a paediatric patient.

At the completion of this continuing education article you will be able to:

  1. understand the neurological differences that exist between adults and children
  2. Acknowledge some of the important paediatric developmental milestones and infant reflexes
  3. Identify the key differences between an adult and a paediatric neurological examination as outlined in the modified Glasgow coma scale
  4. Acknowledge when a paediatric neurological examination may be required in a clinical setting
  5. identify key markers of serious neurological impairment in the paediatric patient
