Health Education and Learning Network (HEALnet) is an innovative online professional development website for nurses and health professionals, developed in 2004 by nursing staff at North Coast TAFE in NSW.
Healnet course topics are customised to current professional development needs by a team of highly qualified Australian nurse trainers.
Kelli Austin (RN, BN, GradCert Nursing, GradCertCritCareNurse (CN), MNursAP, Cert IV Training and Evaluation) Kelli Austin is HEALnet’s in-house Nurse Educator. Kelli is a registered nurse, specialising in emergency nursing, with a range of qualifications from Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, through to a Master of Nursing in Advance Practice. She has been a registered nurse for over 10 years, working in regional and metropolitan hospitals and has progressed through all levels, including CNS and Nurse Unit Manager.
Kelli’s goal is to ensure HEALnet continues to grow into the most professional online nursing community that provides CPD, information and support in our ever-changing profession. HEALnet’s goal is also to embrace nurses from all backgrounds, all levels of experience and expertise no matter where they are in remote, rural or metropolitan Australia.
As part of the HEALnet team, Kelli provides a wide range of support to nurses with her main area of focus being:
Karyn O’Reilly (RN, RM, AEC, Grad Cert PEN, Grad Cert Sc: Hlth Pol & Mgnt, Grad Dip VET, Dip PM, Cert IV Workplace Training & Assessment, MPH) As an emergency nurse and senior nursing administrator, Karyn O’Reilly became increasingly frustrated by the lack of access to education by rural and remote nurses. Creating the idea in late 2003, Karyn was the driving force behind the formation and growth of HEALnet.
Her ultimate goal was to create an online nursing community that would provide continuous professional education (CPE), information and support in an ever-increasingly fast-paced profession. That community would embrace nurses from all backgrounds, all levels of experience & expertise, and all regions of Australia particularly those in regional, rural and remote communities.
Healnet’s major awards include:
2006: GOLD in the NSW TAFE Quality Awards
2011: finalist ATMA Awards
2011: finalist NSW Premiers Awards
2012: BRONZE in the NSW TAFE Innovation & Excellence Awards
"The feedback we have received from our registered nurses is exceptionally positive. We will continue with HEALnet into the New Year,
it is a great resource."
